Cowboy family from the 50s or early 60s.

I love this picture of a family with great big smiles!  I wonder whether this is their farm and their horse, or maybe they were city folk who wanted their family picture done on the farm.  I tend to believe the former because a picture on a dude ranch or friend's ranch would probably be with more obviously western clothing accessories and background. Forget the polo shirt!   I bought the picture on Ebay and have no information on the family or where this was found or taken.  Of course, if anyone recognizes them, please let me know!  I'm not familiar with the trees in the background.  Perhaps someone can tell me what they are and they will be a clue to the location.

I stumbled into your site. Very interesting, I love the old fashioned photos.
THe photo with the horse, seems like the trees are Palm trees, perhaps in California? or somewhere in the Southwest, USA.

Martha, I see you are in Texas, so perhaps you recognize the trees specifically. I will take your word as that of any expert :)

Those are palm trees in the background - they are likely in Southern California somewhere, although there are palm trees here in Arizona, too. They are not indigenous to either place, but became popular imports from the Pacific islands sometime in the early 20th Century.

Long awaited additions....

I don't know anyone but myself who has long awaited any additions to this picture blog, but isn't it best to assume the positive? Here are some photos from various genealogy or other sites. These are just thumbnails to tempt you. Clicking on the photo or on the link I give should link you to the family's site, to the page where the photo is. This is for courtesy and possibly copyright reasons. The Jacob-Buys family. Clicking on the picture above will take you to the original site, where names are listed under the photo. Upon reading a little further, I came up with these interesting points about this Dutch family. There were 19 children; two were born after this photo. Their given names were actually much more "interesting" than the ones under the photo. They are very Latin sounding. There were 60 grandchildren, from 9 of the children in the photo.
