Fabulous old-time video clip of family of 18

I just LOVE this! Through Google, I found a business who sells video clips to advertisers etc for big money, but you can see short previews. Here is a 70-second clip of the Peerbolte family.

"In 1929, the Peerbolte family of Illinois claimed the world record for the largest family of 16 children. "

This is just a thumbnail.

Make sure you see the part where they get out of their "18-seater limousine" which would be a regular-sized car now, only it fits all 18 as no doubt they didn't have the seating regulations we have now. It looks like an optical illusion to see them all file out of it one by one!

I didn't realize you were posting again. Thanks for sharing and the link you shared.

I love the video. Hilarious to see them get out of their limo. Were they rich to have movies like that?

Hi Joanne! I think it was a news item. Didn't they used to show them before movies in the theatre? It's written in like they used to do the old movies.

Thanks for coming by!
What a great video...and everyone was smiling and happy, a rarity it seems for back then. Here's a link to the pot pie recipe, my fam loves it.

Thank you for the recipe!

Are you referring to the solemn faces in old photos? Apparently that was usually because the first cameras had to have the shutter open for so long you had to have an expression you could keep still for a long time. Maybe they also thought that serious faces would look more dignified in their rare photos.

It's possible the youngest is still alive. She'd only be 81. That would so cool to find her and get an interview of what it was like growing up in a large family in those days. I even wonder if they had more children after that too.

Good point, I did a google for her birth name but she didn't show up. That would be very cool though.

Long awaited additions....

I don't know anyone but myself who has long awaited any additions to this picture blog, but isn't it best to assume the positive? Here are some photos from various genealogy or other sites. Upon reading a little further, I came up with these interesting points about this Dutch family. There were 19 children; two were born after this photo. Their given names were actually much more "interesting" than the ones under the photo. They are very Latin sounding. There were 60 grandchildren, from 9 of the children in the photo. Of the other 10 children in this family... 3 died as babies (3rd, 11th, and 18th children) 4 took holy orders (7...
